We are a family run business, with me Ali running front of house, my husband Gareth as head chef and our two boys helping with service, a real family affair. We have spent our whole career in hospitality; it is where we met over 20 years ago!
We are proud and passionate about being full-time owners and operators of an independent business. We see our customers as our extended family and cherish our role in being at the heart of the community, plus welcoming visitors to Winchester, whether it is on a day trip or staying in one of our rooms for the night.
So please do take that short walk, rather than wait in a queue.
Here are five good reasons to – walk this way…
===================================
Peaceful: Get clear of the crowds and hustle and bustle of the city centre, we are just a 10 minute walk away. Friendly staff: A friendly welcome from our staff – our customers say we are the heart and soul of the community..
Everyone welcome
=================
Our pub offers a cosy welcome to all including our canine friends. We also have a large, beautiful quiet garden as well as a separate play area for families with small children
Great food and drink…!!!
=====================
Our food is all homemade, using ingredients from suppliers we have spent years building relationships with. We use local where we can, always with an emphasis on quality and flavour.
History
==========
We are proud to have been a community pub for over 100 years, trading from at least 1906 as a Marstons pub and part of the Winchester brewery.
On route you may have seen some hidden history… the ‘Abbey Gate’, which is the last remanent of a medieval Benedictine monastery in 1538 and the beautiful 12th century flint and stone St Bartholomew’s church, believed to be where King Alfred the Great was re-interned.
