Our Story

Unique and Independent...

We are proudly independent – if gives us the flexibility to tailor our service and products to our customers which are diverse and interesting.

We have a range of customers – locals, students from the university nearby and many, many visitors to Winchester.

Our menu is traditional British pub food, prepared by hand using fresh products from mostly local suppliers, plus a wine list so a choice of 20 wines..

And excellent locally brewed ales and beers from our very own microbrewery in Winchester, with James the head brewer always planning and preparing new brews for our customers.

Whenever possible we source our products from local suppliers; our butchers -Meadowbrook, freshly roasted coffee from the River Coffee company and premium tea form the ‘New Forest Tea Co.’.

History

Our pub gardens are alongside the River Itchen which explains our connection to the historic water milling Deangate Mill.
